Since 1983, Mike’s practice has been primarily devoted to working with healthcare clients in matters involving licensing and regulatory issues, including compliance with Medicaid, Medicare and Certificate of Need requirements for construction projects and certain capital expenditures. He also advises and represents hospitals in matters connected to physicians, antitrust, reimbursement, contracts, employment, tax exemptions and corporate issues.
He also represents corporate and institutional clients in various labor and employment matters, including defending employers against wrongful termination and discrimination suites.
In 2005, Mike played a key role in negotiating an $11 million settlement on behalf of an area hospital client in a dispute with the state Medicaid program regarding reimbursements during the period between the years 1993-2002.
Mike applies an analytical approach to solving clients' problems, and he believes strongly in finding practical, efficient and cost-saving solutions that will benefit them in the long-term.
He is listed in Best Lawyers in America® , a member of the Maine State and Androscoggin County Bar Associations. He is admitted to practice in all Maine state and federal courts, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
Mike participates in a variety of civic and church-related activities. He regularly provides pro bono services to individuals and nonprofit organizations, has served on the boards of L/A Together, Holy Cross and St. Dominic Schools and is a member of the pastoral council of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland. He formerly chaired the board of directors of Catholic Charities Maine.
A native of Lewiston, Maine, Michael received his B.S. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Maine School of Law.
