Sarah Mitchell is an attorney and shareholder with the firm of Skelton Taintor & Abbott in Auburn, Maine. Sarah is also the firm's hiring partner and trial practice group leader.  Sarah's practice concentrates in Family Law.

Sarah’s Family Law practice includes assisting clients in all of the following areas:

  • Alimony (spousal maintenance)
  • Premarital and post marital agreements
  • Post-judgment matters
  • Custody and visitation matters
  • Grandparent rights
  • Collaborative divorce

She represents family law clients throughout southern, central and mid-coast Maine. Sarah is a rostered Guardian ad litem and accepts appointments as such in Courts throughout the State of Maine.  She also acts as a Referee and conducts private mediation. She is a Fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and has been selected for inclusion in Maine Super Lawyers® - Rising Stars Edition, 2010-2012.

Sarah helps clients navigate extremely difficult times in their lives by providing sound advice and counsel specific to their family. Sarah is known for her ability to listen and really understand her client’s situation and priorities. She is a strong advocate for her clients and supportive of their goals and objectives. Clients appreciate her high quality service, responsiveness, and Sarah’s ability to clearly communicate the legal process.

Sarah is a member of the Androscoggin County Bar Association, the Women’s Law Section and Family Law Section of the Maine Bar Association. She served on the Board of Directors of the Maine Bar Foundation and is a Maine Bar Fellow.

Sarah received her J.D. from the University of Maine School of Law with honors in trial advocacy. She received her undergraduate degree from Boston University and began her law school career at Suffolk University Law School in Boston before relocating to Maine.

She served on the Board of Directors for many years of the Children’s Museum & Theater of Maine in Portland, Maine. Sarah continues to be actively involved in the annual auction, the organization’s largest fundraiser.

Raised in Lexington, Massachusetts, Sarah relocated to Maine during law school. She was previously an associate with Skelton, Taintor & Abbott and a partner in another law firm before rejoining Skelton, Taintor & Abbott in 2013.
