Jacob A. Martin is an Associate with the firm of Skelton Taintor & Abbott in Lewiston, Maine, representing clients in the following areas:

Jacob’s practice has a focus on environmental and land use law, municipal governance, and regulatory compliance. He also supports the firm’s litigation and business practice groups, drawing on his background in science and policy to approach legal issues with both analytical and practical insight.
Before joining the firm, Jacob gained broad experience through internships and externships with the South Carolina Environmental Law Project, Trout Unlimited-Sebago Chapter, and the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation & Forestry’s Animal Welfare Program. In these roles, he contributed to complex regulatory matters, assisted in statutory and rule drafting, coordinated with government agencies, and supported environmental litigation and advocacy.
Jacob’s academic career was marked by leadership and teaching. While a student at the University of Maine School of Law, he co-taught ESP 399: Environmental Law, Policy, and Justice at the University of Southern Maine through the Environmental Teaching Program, giving him the opportunity to combine his legal training with his passion for public education and civic engagement.
Representative Matters:
- Drafted statutes and regulations on behalf of the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation & Forestry’s Animal Welfare Program.
- Coordinated regulatory conversations with the Maine Turnpike Authority and advanced community involvement and public participation in relation to the Gorham Connector project while working with Trout Unlimited-Sebago Chapter.
- Supported the South Carolina Environmental Law Project in the Bramlett Site cleanup matter, including public participation efforts and legal research opposing regulatory interpretations and actions.
Jacob received his J.D. from the University of Maine School of Law. He earned his B.S. in Biochemistry from Anderson University (SC), where he developed a strong foundation in scientific and technical analysis that informs his legal work.
Originally from Blacksburg, South Carolina, Jacob has a lifelong appreciation for Maine’s natural resources and local communities. Outside of the office, he enjoys learning new things and spending time outdoors.
