Jane E. Skelton

Jane Skelton is Of Counsel to Skelton Taintor & Abbott and brings more than 35 years of experience to the firm. She concentrates her practice in:

  • Special Needs Planning
  • Elder Law, particularly Long-Term Care Planning and Crisis MaineCare Planning
  • Estate Planning
  • Probate

Jane graduated from the University of Maine School of Law and started her legal career in Bangor in 1988. In 2001, she opened the Maine Elder Law Firm, and Jane recently retired from that Bangor firm when she and her husband, Attorney Ed Bearor, bought, started restoring, and moved to Jane’s childhood home in West Auburn. She is happy to now be associated with the firm started by her great grandfather and continued by several generations of Skeltons, including her brother, shareholder William K. Skelton.

Jane has been the chair of the Elder Law Section of the Maine State Bar Association, a charter member of ElderCounsel (now part of WealthCounsel), and a member of the Special Needs Alliance. She often developed and presented continuing legal education programs for both Maine and national audiences of attorneys, and she has provided education to accountants, social workers, physicians, and to the general public.

Jane travels as much as possible, most recently to Cambodia and Vietnam. Her favorite trips are long hikes in Europe, so far including France, Switzerland, and Italy. Jane and Ed also delight in any time spent with their three adult children and grandson, often at their camp on Taylor Pond. She enjoys live theater, thoughtful novels, and kind people.
