Skelton Taintor & Abbott attorney Jim Pross to Speak on Workers’ Compensation Claims

AUBURN, Maine – Skelton Taintor & Abbott attorney Jim Pross will present at the Central Maine Human Resources Association (CMHRA) April 17 chapter meeting on the topic of Workers’ Compensation Claims for Employers: Helpful Hints and a Guide to Handling Claims.

The program will focus on tips for how employers handle workers’ compensation claims from investigation to mediation. Pross will present an overview of key concepts in workers’ compensation in Maine.

“It is stressful for an employer to grapple with a work injury,” says Pross. “While larger employers may handle injuries as a matter of routine, smaller businesses may only occasionally have to deal with them. Understanding ‘the lay of the land’ and the basic compliance requirements of the law can go a long way in minimizing exposure for employers.”

Pross will review questions that may arise during an investigation and the role of the employer/human resources representative throughout the process. Important aspects will be discussed, such as early filing and reporting requirements as well as potential pitfalls and salient considerations.

Pross’ practice areas include workers’ compensation law, commercial real estate, municipal and government law and social security disability. He represents both employers and employees in workers’ compensation matters. Pross also has experience in appellate work before the Maine Supreme Judicial Court where he prevailed in a significant workers’ compensation discrimination case.

Active in the legal and local communities, Pross has served as president of the Androscoggin Land Trust and recently completed a two-year term as an Auburn City Councilor and a joint two-year term as a member of the Auburn School Committee.

The April 17 event will be held at the Carriage House in Lewiston from 7:45 am to 9:30 am EDT. The event is free to CMHRA members and $25 per person for non-members.
