AUBURN, Maine – Skelton Taintor & Abbott attorney Rebecca S. Webber will serve as an instructor at the vital training course Drug Impairment in the Workplace, How Does H.R. Respond? The half-day class is being held on Nov. 12 at Dirigo Safety Headquarters in Auburn.
With drug abuse in Maine currently at epidemic proportions, it is of critical importance that employers understand the issues that can arise in the workplace. While employees are protected in terms of their right to use certain prescription drugs, impairment in the workplace is unacceptable. Issues related to prescription medications and common misperceptions about drug use and abuse in the workplace will be examined.
Webber and the other instructors will present an overview of drug impairment and look at the current issues. They will address what employers can and cannot do.
Participants will learn how to spot and document impairment as well as the policies that can be put in place. They will break down the steps and demonstrate what works best and what to avoid in creating a safe work environment. Participants will receive an impairment checklist, sample performance plans, policy language and strategies for reacting to impairment that will help reduce legal risk.
