Rebecca S. Webber to Speak to Chamber of Commerce about Human Resources

Category: Events

AUBURN, Maine – On October 4, Skelton, Taintor & Abbott attorney Rebecca S. Webber is giving a presentation to the Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls Chamber of Commerce titled “Ten Tips to Avoiding the Commission, Courts and Claims.” She will address issues in human resources for both small and large businesses.

With more than 20 years of experience representing individuals, businesses and government agencies in employment law and civil litigation, Webber is well versed in the complex issues that employers face. She handles employment claims in both state and federal court, before the Maine Human Rights Commission, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and other state and federal agencies and tribunals.

In today’s world, businesses cope daily with achieving a balance between cost containment and keeping employees happy and productive. Large businesses face a myriad of laws. Small businesses often do not have a human resources department, so owners must keep an eye on compliance issues.

There are many requirements to be met even if employees are well treated. Webber’s presentation will focus on 10 crucial points and how companies can reduce the risk of claims, Commission actions and litigation. The discussion will include harassment policies, wage-and-hour issues, religious accommodation and personnel files. Attendees may submit their specific concerns in advance of the presentation (, and Webber will try to address those issues as well.
